Prostate Cancer - 3-D Diagnosis and Targeted Focal Therapy

International Program for 3-D Diagnosis & Therapy of Prostate Cancer

It is estimated that between 10-40% of men undergoing a definitive therapy such as radical prostatectomy or radiation therapy have what has been labeled an insignificant cancer. These cancers pose little risk to most men, however, many factors may influence the risk including the person longevity. The presence of high grade cancer can influence outcome and these some are times missed on the initial biopsies. Our approach in selected men with low risk cancer identified on the initial biopsy is to further stage them with 3D mapping biopsies in order to further classify the cancer so that a more informed decision can be made. We encourage to watch the Emmy Award winning television program by news anchor Mike Landess [ Videos] which explains the entire procedure. The  majority of men diagnosed with prostate cancer will die of another cause, most commonly heart disease. Our approach is not just focused on treating a cancer but also includes issues related to men's health.
